Marybeth Fraser made a motion and Donna Creeden seconded it, to accept the minutes of the August 28, 2002 minutes, and the motion was passed 7 0. Old Business: The Chairman reported that Dr. Bettencourt was not able to speak to the Council as planned due to a scheduling conflict with one of the school open house nights. The Chairman reported that the October meeting would be an Open House for all of the Service Providers, giving everyone an opportunity to meet them in a more informal setting. The Chairman reported that Dr. Bettencourt would come to speak to the Council either at the November or December meeting. The Chairman reported that he had not contacted the Norfolk County District Attorneys Office concerning the legality of the Council not following open meeting rules. The Chairman will host the first Parents Group meeting on Saturday, October 5, 2002, at 12:30 PM. The Chairman reported that no one from the Council has been able to attend any of the school Open House nights to date. The McGovern School Open House will be on Thursday, September 26, 2002 at 7:00 PM and the Chairman plans to represent the Council. The Chairman reported that he has received many interesting pamphlets, books and brochures from MASSPAC that are available to everyone in the Council. The Council can receive discounts on training through MASSPAC, so if anyone has an idea about an area they need help in, please consult with the Chairman. Judy Hoyer updated the Council on the upcoming audit. Nancy Taylor is our coordinator. Susan Nichols from the Department of Education will be here on October 8, 2002. The Department of Education is going to select 25 families of the 400 on IEPs to interview. The Chairman reminded everyone to invite all of our teachers and service providers to come to the Councils meetings. New Business: Judy Hoyer discussed the Entitlement Grant for $400 that the Special Education Department received to build a resource library. She would like to see materials on autism and speech and language disabilities. She also indicated that some of the money might be available for training. Judy Hoyer then discussed the Teacher Assistant training that will take place on October 11, 2002. Members of the PAC are invited to attend, on a first come, first served basis, with a limit of 5. The topic of the session is social skills. Marybeth Fraser was chosen as Election Coordinator by lot, per the bylaws.
