Learning that your new pooch is deaf is the first hurdle any owner must accept. But then learning that training a deaf dog is not very different from training a hearing one, can take some of the sting out of learning that your dog is deaf. You don’t need to use any different methods in deaf dog training, only different cues. Training a deaf dog does not even take any more time or effort. The concepts are all the same, as hearing dogs learn the meaning of words and commands through repetition, deaf dogs learn the same way. Because we depend so much on speech to communicate as humans, we just assume that dogs do so as well. Dogs do not understand the English language or any other language. When two...

The idea of a business and career education can be as easy as a cashier selling an orange across a grocery counter, or a plumber selling his services by fixing a leaky faucet. It can also be as multifaceted as the sale of state-of-the-art technology from a company in California to a country halfway across all the continents. Ever since we humans have learned that we could exchange goods and services with our neighbors, we have always improved on the way we do business with one another. Business has always been the driving factor behind timeless inventions and major discoveries. However business has evolved so much than a simple barter trade with thy neighbor, and for anyone to succeed in the wide...

I think we can all agree on one thing network marketing or home based businesses or multi level marketing all have a lot of very good points to them. We can make a good deal of money with them IF we can get people to sign up and stay signed up right! The old way as I call it and let me tell you it is still very much enforced by the different networking opportunities out there just isn't working why because people get turned off by pushy MLMers. They don't know you. They don't trust you. They don't want what you're pushing on them. Do they come back to you after you assault them with your DVD and info.. no you have to keep following up five to seven times I'm told then maybe just maybe they might...

Without going into the fine detail, on 1st October in the UK, the new laws to provide protection against age-discrimination in employment and adult education, for people of all ages came into force. But will they work? The new law will cover discrimination in employment and in training and education, but not in provision of goods and services - as far as work or careers go then the two areas that matter are: Direct Discrimination: Treating someone less favorably because of their age i.e. refusing to recruit someone because they are or appear to be over 50 say. Indirect Discrimination: Having a policy or practices that put people at a disadvantage because of their age i.e. restricting recruitment to...

More and more people are returning to Direct Mail to boost sales and profits. Now unlike big corporations who can afford to throw marketing dollars in to a black hole the small and medium sized business needs to ensure every dollar has a great return on capital. If you follow these essential seven steps you will have a profitable campaign. 1) Targeted Customers The more targeted your customers the more successful your campaign will be. Don't fall in to the trap of buying any old data, you want real targeted prospects. Think about who your ideal prospect is, write it down and brainstorm what their characteristics are, where do they live, what type of home, what type of car do they drive, are they...

These work great for both typical kids as well as children with special needs. Activities For Down Syndrome Children Many parents see that using scale bikes instead of training wheels is a more effective way to teach kids how to ride a bike. In addition to the sheer joy brought nearly in children by learning to ride a 2-wheeler, you will furthermore save a tremendous amount of bucks by not having to come up with the remarkably pricey and cumbersome 3-wheeled bikes made traditionally for special needs children. The war on smoking has been going on for over 40 years now and it is not going well despite the preponderance of the evidence is that cigarette smoking damages one's health over the long run. Yes millions of people have quit smoking and yet millions more have also started during the same time period. "The Transcendence of the Ego" is a short work by Jean Paul Sartre, written in 1937 and which presents us a phenomenological study of human consciousness. This work marked Sartre's break from the teachings of Edmund Husserl. He rejects the idea of regarding the ego as a part of our consciousness and doesn't place the ego inside of it. He rejects both — formal and material presence of the ego in our consciousness and tries to prove that any ego is an external part of our consciousness like anybody else's one. It can be concluded from the following statements that our emotions, my states and even our ego itself, cease to be our exclusive property. Phenomenology places states, emotions outside...

The physical body is in a constant process of change. Medical studies indicate that the skin is recycled every two weeks, the liver every three hundred to five hundred days, and the human skeleton every ten years. This happens without any thought or conscious decision. If all change was only that easy. Making the same choice in life that produces the same outcome is much like watching a hamster running on his wheel. He is in motion and keeping busy, but not really getting anywhere. There is not any real mystery involved in transforming oneself. Transformation can be achieved through three steps: desire, definition and discovery. First, one must have a desire for change. Without desire one simply...

If you or your loved ones have experienced the terrifying prognosis of cancer or another terminal illness, it may feel like a horrendous internal terror attack. Terror has many faces and forms. Today the word terror is associated with terrorist bombing or victimization of varying types. Webster’s definition is from the Latin terror, is related to the Greek 'trein'- to be afraid, flee, to tremble. In general, terror is a state of intense fear to the point of trembling. When we first received the news of our mother being diagnosed with bone marrow cancer we internalized the news–we trembled at the thought of the suffering and death, which is associated with bone marrow cancer. I heard little sound bytes on the radio or the television every now and again but couldn't really put my finger on what "Post Oil Future" really means. Especially, what it will mean for me and those that I love. Then I started reading about the Transition Towns movement. Now it started to make sense to me - perhaps I just needed some practical information and things to do to make it really sink in. Leading up to hearing about the Transition Towns movement I read a book, a good few years ago now, by a man from Australia, called David Holmgren. Now David, is pretty smart, committed to living...

One of my greatest acquaintances is really a high college wrestling coach. He is really a rough tiny guy having a no-nonsense type of  frame of mind that will get results from his athletes, and has little patience when it comes to points like laziness and  arrogance. All I ever thought of him as was a wrestling mentor. It occurred to me one day that, currently being a mentor at the high university level, he was also a teacher, and I had no idea  what he in fact taught. Too embarrassed to go and request him, I talked to one of his assistants and discovered out that he  was a special education teacher. I have to admit that we chuckled somewhat in the thought of one of his college students...

So many of us today need to realize we are back in school. It may not be the same building, classrooms and definitely not the same people are around - but "school" is always in. So many of my students are so happy to finish high school and some think they are done being in a classroom and done being with a teacher. They say they are thrilled for no more books and taking notes - oh how wrong they are in that thinking. Today's world is so very different than just a few short years ago, laughably different than when I graduated high school in 1984. The sooner my students and everyone else realizes that we all need to be learners; all the time, the rest of our lives, the better off they and all of us...

Whenever one sees a picture of a hut, one thinks of Africa. Indeed, huts have been the defining architectural hallmark of Africa, and throughout the continent, they have been the preferred building style. Huts are a form of living space. Huts are usually round, with a peaked roof. They are usually made of mud or clay, with a wooden structure to support the building, and a single wooden pole in the centre, which supports the grass-thatched roof. Many critics of Africa claim that Africa can boast no great cultures south of Egypt. By that, they often mean that there is no architectural evidence of greatness south of the Pyramids. Indeed, architecture or architectural remains are the accepted calling...

The Atmos Clock called, erroneously, the perpetual motion clock, first saw the light of day in the early seventeenth century. It's close to perpetual motion, but no cigar! It violates the Second Law of Thermodynamics, as well as the law of conservation of energy, since it fails to produce energy from nothing. Not only that, but these clocks do require servicing, usually every 10 to 20 years. Perpetual motion would mean the negation of friction and any other element that might stop the clock, meaning that there would never be the need for service of any kind. There is an energy source, ethyl chloride gas, stored in the shape of a very powerful hollow spring, set in a large drum at the back of the...

Knowing proper spelling is very important for a number of reasons. First of all, when words cannot be spoken from our mouths we can write them down. If these words are not spelled properly, then that communication is compromised. Since communicating in writing is very important in many of our jobs, it is important that we know some very important grammar rules. Second, many use writing to write down their ideas. If proper grammar isn't used, then those who like to write in diaries and journals would not understand what they wrote when reading it years down the road. So not only is writing important when communicating with others, it is also important when communicating with ourselves. Below are...

A Stirling engine is a kind of heat engine where the heat of the engine runs because of the cyclical compression and spreading out of working fluid, gas, or air at various temperature levels. This results to conversion of mechanical energy from heat energy. In 1816, Robert Stirling found out how to build a Stirling engine and was predicted. At present, a Stirling engine is only used on specific machines such as submarines and in yachts where it is used as a back up generator of power source. It is preferred for operations where quietness is a must. It is possible to have a do-it-yourself Stirling engine. It is one of the simplest engines that can be assembled even at home. The students, all thirty seven lovers of rappers and rap music, knew a lot more than I thought. For the past week, they have been attentive and motivated when they are usually hard to settle down since there are so many of them. When I surprised them with my long list of rappers I collected while watching MTV and VH1 videos, they looked at me in awe. One student said out loud to another student: "How does she know all this?" I believe that one of the most important concepts about poetry is that, "Like a song, poetry is meant to be heard" (Larrick, 1987, p. 20). While good prose can either be read aloud or silently, poetry nearly always needs to be read aloud. That poetry needs to be heard can be attributed to the characteristics of poetry that distinguish poetry from prose, i.e., rhythm, sound patterns, figurativeness, compactness, and emotional intensity (Lukens, 1990). I will explore each of these in more depth, below: An example that I often use when I am first teaching the attribute of rhythm to students is Carl Sandburg's poem, "Was Ever a Dream A Drum?" [Be sure to read this aloud!] Was ever a dream a drumor a...
